Relaxing on Railay Beach

For the last few weeks I have been trying to do and see as much as I could, today I decided to do something I have not yet done on this trip, lie on the beach under the warm sun and relax. I grabbed a Thai pancake, keeping in mind they are not just for breakfast anymore, got a morning massage from my new favorite place, and headed out. I was amazed to see how much damage was still around from the Tsunami.

I then dunked myself in sunscreen. They really own you here, most things in Thailand are amazingly cheap, sunscreen however is about twenty percent more than it is in the US, and with airline security, you can’t leave the US with more than three ounces of it. I worked on my tan, grabbed some lunch, worked on my tan, and then grabbed a beer.

I ran in to an American woman who teaches in Tokyo during the school year and then travels Asia during break. She makes twice as much as a teaching in Tokyo then anyplace she could find in the US. Not a bad way to live your life. But then I guess I don’t really have too many regrets either. I enjoyed her company and then headed back to the hotel to see what was going on in the world. I watched actual news on CNN out of Tokyo, free of the US propaganda, and dunked myself in Aloe vera (also about twenty percent more than in the US) before calling it a night.
